Everyone seems right on the money on this one and CdwJava makes a great point about criminal conduct - which is something out of your control. Chances are very small the police will prioritize this issue since (a) the list of priorities and more serious crimes places this towards the bottom; and (b) you have a remedy to leave. No emergency or urgent situation or one affecting the health, safety and welfare of the public at large.

Second, unless there is significant damage the court will just say "here's some small token amount of money to deal with your temporary anguish which you should get over without too much scarring." What may be devastating that could result in damages? For example, your private and unknown homosexual desires have become known through the other party as he has told others that he has seen your private pictures with a lover. That could be understandably mentally devastating and is not technically defamatory because it may be true. But if it's just the trauma that someone broke in and read your email spam and bills from your credit card company, don't expect a windfall.
