Arrest, Search, Seizure, Warrant vehicle seizure after an accident

My jurisdiction is: Utah

My vehicle was involved in a serious accident several months ago and it was taken as evidence at the time. The police will not release the vehicle, let me recover my belonging, see the vehicle or even see pictures of it. They have not charged or ticketed the driver. I do not want to make matters worse for the driver, but I would like to recover my property.

I suspect (but do not know) that they have not finished with the investigation.

I am confused. Is there a time limit on that? its not okay to keep insurance and make payments on somthing that you can't drive or whatever? Right?
