Okay here's the senerio live-in girlfriend and boyfriend, both together finance an automobile. The girlfriend signs all of the loan documentation and enters into the contract and registers the vehicle. The boyfriend makes the down payment, and in process of making all the payments. There are two payments left and the boyfriend plans to continue paying for the automobile. Here's the punch line- They meaning girlfriend/boyfriend decides to call it quits, boyfriend moves out he has been the only driver of the vehicle so he tells the girlfriend he's taking the car! She is not a happy camper, because Mother is now involve and is telling her daughter her rights to the vehicle. He has no paper trail that he has made the down payment or all the other payments there after. Do the boyfriend have any legal leg to stand on, as far as, rights to the vehicle? What can he do if girlfriend refuse to cooperate?:

Legally the car belongs to the person whose name is on the title.

If your name isn't on the title, you don't own the car, payments notwithstanding.

In your state, had you been MARRIED, it would have made a difference.

That fact that you chose to play house, won't help you now.
