Other Immigration Law Vacation Question

Here is another question... since I've been looking through other threads and have yet to see something about this.

What about a U.S. citizen marrying someone on a H1b visa...and wanting to go on a honeymoon???:nuts

Do you have to wait for all your marriage paperwork stuff to go through before you can, let's say, go to Mexico for a vacay? Or is there something you can apply for so you both can go for 2 weeks and the newly married-non citizen can return with me to the states safely??? Kind of a silly question, but still curious...

I don't know the answer, but it seems to me that logically it might make more sense to plan to go to the US Virgin Islands, or Hawaii, or even Florida. Why does it have to be outside the country? Why take the risk?
