An aging parent gave their attorney instructions on executors/power of attorney but had a major heart attack before papers were signed. Parent is sedated and on a ventilator with an unsure outcome. Parent after several years widowed from a 60 year marriage, married this year. Question is does the verbal statment to their attorney hold any legal strength if the parent is unable to sign or worse?

No they do not. If he recovers enough, even for just a few hours, the attorney can come to the hospital and get everything signed. He does not actually have to be able to sign himself, jsut make his wishes known and instruct someone else to sign for him. If you anticipate a will contest, video it.
