Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication underage consumption

i was in athens and got pulled over in a car with a sober driver. i was asked to step out bc the officer smelled alcohol. i was given a citation for underage consumption but never given a breathalyzer and he told me i didnt have to go to court. when i called about the ticket they said i must appear in court so the officer lied to me. do i really have to appear in court and what is the punishment? does it go on my permanent record since im 18?

Hi mege28 - You are charged with misdemeanor and you are required to appear in court . Each state has their own guide lines for punishements . Usually fines + court cost + mandatory alcohol classes attendance + community services+ random alcohol testing since it is your first offense they will wipe it off your record after 1 year probation .
