Two Tickets in Two Weeks

My mom has had a driver license for 11 years and has never had a traffic ticket until the last month. On 07/29 she received a speeding ticket (54 in a 35) in Palo Alto, CA. Then two weeks later she got another ticket for a "failure to yield after stop sign" in Saratoga, CA (same county). Will it have any positive effect on her driving record if she goes to a traffic school? And will it make any sense to go to court and beg the judge to keep her record clean on a condition that she goes to a traffic school, emphasizing that she has always had a perfect driving record?

She has received a courtesy notice from court for her first violation but yet for the second one. She is going all crazy, and I don't know why, but she has scheduled an arrangment. Could somebody please advise what her position in court should be? What should she be saying in court to minimize a negative impact on her driving record?
