Trying to collect on a debt owed by an individual

I am trying to collect on a debt owed by an individual. We had a verbal agreement to be paid back. I am just starting the process and need to know what type of attorney to contact? The amount would be over $25,000. He lives in KS. We lived together in MO for the majority of the time and KS part of the time.

Enforcing a verbal agreement will be difficult. So you should get a written admission from him that he owes the debt. Send him a nice letter discussing the debt, without making offensive demands. Get the correspondence going with him, because each letter and argument that he offers is a written acknowledgment by him that he owes the debt. Then take those letters to your lawyer, and see what you can enforce.
