My aunt passed away recently and the homehealth care facility which she lived at for many years sent me a check written out to The estate of (my aunts name). It had a sticky note attached to it that read "we were told an Estate needs opened. I called the home to see where the money was from and they said it was a trust fund and I should call estate recovery. I didn't want to do that until I seeked legal advice. The home rep told me if I opened an estate the State would probably take the money and if they didn't the home would. I don't have the money to hire a lawyer at this time. I'm not sure what I should do. Any advice or help would greatly be appreciated.
