Time share

I have a time-share that I purchased in 1984. This not a deed but shares of stock in the corporation.
Since it has a date in the future of when my interest will end I think this a right to use.

My purchase paper work states that my unit sleeps 5 to 6 people. When I try to trade the unit I would
have a problem, because the trading company would say I deposited a 1-bedroom unit that sleeps
4. I would complain to my resort and they would fix it. Now the trading company will not accept my unit in trade for a 2 bedroom that sleeps 6.

Since I believe all along that the resort has not given me what I paid for, I would like to dispose of this interest and the maintenance fee. I have been told that since it is a right to use I can stop paying for my maintenance fee and the resort will not allow me to use the unit and make available to other members to purchase. I was also told that this would not affect my credit rating.

I needed to know if this is correct before I proceed with this plan
.
