We keep getting phones calls for someone with the same last name but a different first name than us. I can only assume they are from collection agency. Every time I tell them they have the "wrong number" they tell me they are sure I am the person they are looking for. I tell them NO, I am not that person. But how do I prove it to them over the phone? A few years ago it was happening and that collector wanted me to give her my social security number to compare with what they had on file. I told her "no way, I don't give that information over the phone". The calls stopped four years ago and have started again obviously from a different agency fishing to collect on some very old debt.
How can I make these harassing phone calls stop? We have a very common last name and I am sure they are just doing a search on names with the same initials.
