Friend got caught shoplifting in a mall. Police not involved taken his id,address, height and weight and made him sign a paper that he is going to pay for the loss and in other paper the LP officer filled his name. And later in a week he got civil demand which he paid the same day. Now he is freaking out that he doesn't know what was that paper that LP officer wrote his name. Can anyone tell what will be that paper ?
And can anybody tell can we search in any background checks whether his case is reported to police or DA before he gets summons if incase store is planning that. And he called court yesterday and find out that there is no record on his name as of now. Clerk told if he is expecting something like that he can check in his mail. Is that mean they dont have any report to them right

How is anyone supposed to guess what that paper was? Maybe it was a record for the store to file away in case they catch him again.

In any event, if he satisfied the civil demand it is highly unlikely that anything else will happen. He should forget about it unless he hears anything else, which he probably will not.

Hopefully he learned a lesson and he won't steal again.

I am a Retail theft consultant and answer questions like yours daily. No one can say what other paper was but it was likely a ban from store. It also could be an acknowledgment that his name will go into a Retail Theft database that other subscribers can view.

What does this mean, if he satisfy civil demand.. he paid the whole amount at once whatever they asked in the demand letter.

If he paid (satisfied) the civil demand in full, then that "probably" will be the end of it - nothing else will happen.
