My wedding ring was stolen by my step brother (in NH) and when I first called the cops they said that it's pretty obvious he took it but because I had no real proof there was nothing I could do about it. I recently found out that he gave the ring to his ex-girlfriend and when they broke up she threw it in the pond. So now that I have proof his father wants me to take the value of the ring ($600) instead of pressing charges. I am worried though because he said he could only give me $300 tomorrow and I don't know that I will ever see the rest and I am getting married on Saturday.
I guess I am wondering if I should make him sign something saying he will give me the remaining amount by a certain date (which I don't even know if that can guarantee me the money) or if I am better off just going through with filing the charges?
