Statute of Limitations - Legal Malpractice

Back in 2002, I went through a divorce. As part of that divorce, the judge awarded me temporary support but my lawyer told me that the only way I could receive the money is if I paid thousands of dollars in attorney fees. So I never received a dime of the monthly support that I was supposed to get.

Then as part of the settlement, I was awarded a portion of my ex-husband's retirement fund. I just found out that my attorney never filed the paperwork with the retirement system regarding the details of court's awarding me a portion of the retirement.

I have sent letters and left messages for the attorney to call me back - none of which have been returned.

Do I have a case of malpractice against this attorney and is it still within the statue of limitations for be to be able to take such action? If this is a viable solution, what type of lawyer do I need to find?

Thank you for your assistance!
