Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Short Opinion Question. Please Advise. Thanks

ok what is the most likely penalty for a petty theft first offender, with NO previous record. the officer that issued me the CITATION said i would only recieve a fine in court. is this correct. once again this is my first offense and the goods stolen were only 34.50. your help is much appreciated.

also isnt there a type of probation where you do not have to report to a probation officer.like you cant get arrested or anything to violate your "probation"but you dont actually report to an officer.
