i got caught stealing $11 dollars worth of merchandise and did not get arrested but have a court date. should i plead guilty and if i do what will happen?

i live in kansas and it is my first offense

That would result in the worst outcome.
Show up in court, ask for an attorney, and follow instructions. The answer to just about every question should sound something like, "I don't understand. I would like to speak with an attorney first."

Get an attorney & speak only to your attorney. If you can't afford one, ask the court if they will appoint one for you.

Do not plead guilty - ask your attorney about ACD or diversion as plea options. Hopefully this is your first offense.

Do not steal again.
