Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft shoplifing can cause you to lose your job?

i know someone who got arrest for stealing somethign worth $5 at home depot and got caught. It is his first time offense and his well over 18. Judge told him to come back with a lawyer because he can lose his job due to the fact that he works for a union.

The reason the judge probably told you to get a lawyer is so that the lawyer can negotiate a plea bargain deal or better, pre-trial intervention so that the charge will not stay on your record once the probationary period is finished. You may be able to either get a public defender to handle this for you, or call the D.A.'s office yourself to see about this, or the prosecution may off this to you on the day of your trial.
