Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication SELL,CONSUME,POSS charge in ND

Last Sunday (10/4) I was in a different city visiting my brother. Well, we went out to the bars (we're all legal age) and at the end of the night my brother was nowhere to be found. So, I stepped outside to call him since it was too loud in the bar, and within about 10 seconds bike cops surrounded me and gave me a SELL,CONSUME,POSS ticket. It didn't even occur to me that I had an open beer in my hand until the ticket was handed to me. I was literally about 10 feet from the entrance of the bar and just stepped out briefly to make the call. I guess this is a class B misdemeanor and $100 fine. I now have to appear in court this Thursday for it in that city. The huge problem is, I am sending in applications for medical school in about 2-3 weeks and have a clear record besides this. I probably won't get accepted with this on my record. Is there anything I can do about this situation? I just don't want a mark on my record that medical schools can see. Should I hire a lawyer? Should I plead guilty?

Not true at all. I'm aware of a lot of people with OUILs, etc., accepted to medical school as well as Law School.

If it's your only crime, you should contact an attorney for a plea deal. Many prosecutors, if they hear what happened, will possibly reduce it to some kind of civil infraction.
