I may need to appeal decision by University in VA Circuit court regarding tuition.
I think this means I'm taking state to court!

The economics are such that using an attorney will at best break even. However, I feel confident enough in my abilities and research of the applicable law to have a completely sound case to present.

So it would seem that I could do this myself, with some legal counseling (particularly on procedures and documents etc).

What the best way of doing this?

I have nothing to loose - if I dont appeal, the result is the same as loosing appeal.

Q: What the best way of doing this?

A: Hiring a lawyer who specializes in appeals. That's what trial attorneys do.

There are several people who can help you, just google them. Generally, you have to give notice of appeal. It's a process of procedure you do not want to screw up on! One mistake and it's over.

But, if you look at your states rules of civil procedure, and administrative procedure, you will find your answeres.

As far as forms go, you can try the clerk of court, any local lawyer should have a forms book, you could get the forms from them. Or google the forms. Hint: you can find 99% of what you need for free online.

True.

So, if our poster knows how to write a brief following the very persnickety rules of appeals courts, then he is a mile ahead of most trial attorneys!

Andy, do you want to post the first draft of your brief?

Though I tempted to draft it and post it inline, I think I'd want an attorney to do that for me.

Scooterdogs's advice was what I was looking for. I do not do this very often (like nil!). So even the obvious about procedure it useful at this stage.

On the otherhand, I can read law and present a compelling case on that basis. (and have done so for IP)

Hopefully the state will see reason and avoid the need of course.

Thank you for the help!

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think that's what you want.
