I vacated my rent house on March 31 (end of lease). My security deposit was used for damages to the property. The cost of damage was greater than the amount of security deposit. I received a letter stating this, along with a list of damages, yesterday April 28) at my new residence. I just received a call today from a collection agency trying to collect this debt along with a collection fee. The landlord did not try to contact me to collect this debt nor did they give me a chance to inquire about certain charges. Now I am stuck with an even larger bill than I had before. Is this legal and is there anything I can do?

Texas is usually a nightmare for creditors...but landlords can actually succeed in obtaining a means to collecting a judgment.

That aside, does your lease actually address damages and if you can waive your right to notice?
