A parent put me as a small owner of their S corp( <5% ) that has paid a dividend for the past 5 years(since i was told of my interest). This year the accountant (I am not close to the parent) sent a letter with the payment that said in the future I mostly likely need to repay to keep my shares in the corp since the profits have not been re-invested. My parent knowing I may not have the money to pay - could this be a way they disolve my interest? Or is it common for shareholders to have to repay to retain interest after XXX many years. They are also mentioning inflation, inventory and cash reserves depleted.
Thanks,
