Whose business is it?

Who got sued? The business? Or the defendant as an individual?

What information is being requested and why?

Give how incomprehensible your last post was I think you need to try to explain this one better.

Depends what the plaintiff is asking for, but assuming that the business is not a party to this action but has some information about the defendant that is relevant to it, and is restricted by some policy from divulging that information without the defendant's consent, then yeah, I guess it makes some sense. Though, if the plaintiff already has a subpoena, the defendant's permission may be unnecessary.
