Former boss purchased vehicle for me in lieu of not turning him in when intoxicated and discharging a firearm, hand gun at my person. He staggered and I ducked. Now he has sent demand letter for vehicle and won't relinquish pink slip. This occurred in Oct. 2005. The vehicle was purchased Nov. 2005. In 2012 I was approached by the owner who stated he would like to see another employee have something nice to drive, if I gave her my vehicle he would give me his as he had just purchased a new Mercedes and owned a corvette and would not need that vehicle. I agreed. These vehicles were also used during and for company business and therefore company paid insurance. However, all maintenance and repairs since 2005 have been my sole responsibility together with smog and registration.

What would be an appropriate remedy?

See who owns the vehicle by looking at the title. Determine if you wish to stay employed there and you piss him off and he fires you.

As one who has dodged a few bullets in his life, consider yourself very lucky to be alive.
That idiot could have killed you.
You might just be better served, and live longer by seeking new employment and buying yourself a car.
Otherwise, you'll continue live (until he gets drunk -again- and kills you) under the oppressive boot of a maniac.
