Question about police looking up someones infomation

is it illegal for a police officer to look up someones general where abouts if someone gives them the persons name and DOB?

hypothetically speaking, if someone came home to find out their girl friend was gone and took about everything she should get her hands on...

a year after the fact if an officer was to say he could try and dig up some info if he could get her name and dob, would that be illegal/job losing situation?

It would not be good for any police officer to put themselves in that position. It could cost the officer their job. My suggestion? Hire a private investigator. The few hundred dollars it may cost to find the person is a lot less than the cost of someones job.
