Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication prayer for judgement

okay - i know nothing about law.

a friend of mine was given a citation for:
1.Possess ½ ounce or less of marijuana, a controlled substance included within schedule VI of the North Carolina Controlled Substance Act.

2.Did possess Xanax, a controlled substance included within schedule IV of the of the North Carolina Controlled Substance Act.

at his first court date (1/18) he pled guilty, thinking honesty would be best.

I've talked to a few lawyers for him and found out that pleading guilty was not the best choice.

He has to go back to court this month for sentencing. Is it too late to do anything to keep him from going to jail?

What about prayer for judgement? What exactly is that and when can it be used?

Any advice would be great. thank you.

Here's all the information I have about the case. I've marked out some information (last names, SS#, etc...) but all the basic info is there and there's a link on this page to a copy of the original citation (again - sensitive info marked out).

There just has to be some way to help him.

I would be so grateful for any advice.
