My husband and I are volunteer Board of Director members of our non-profit county fair. Tonight was election night , an election of new board members was going to be voted on but, before the vote a motion was made by one of the regular members that, no husband and wife coulld serve on the Board of Directors the motion as supported, won by two votes, then passed as a new rule that from now on at this volunteer county fair board of directors, a husband and a wife can not serve together on the board of directors, even though they have served together for 53 years before. I am not sure where to go or look to see if what they did is legal and not against a civil law, a government law since they receive government monies. Can you point me in the right direction, please?
