Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Petty Theft caught on tape?

I live in California.
I was at one of the department stores picked out one of the jeans and noticed that the security tag wasn't secured tight. it was loose enough for me to force it out. i was able to do it and when i walked out of the store i was confronted with undercover guards. as soon as i noticed i was busted i just took of and ran away. i am sure that i was being recorded on the video tapes. I ran to my car and i made sure nobody was running after me. but as i got away in my car i think that somebody saw my license plate. what should i do?

by the way, when i ran away, i threw the jeans down so is this considered attempted shoplifting?
will the store even investigate in this situation to find me?

Depending on the store they could pursue it. Once the leave the store with it you shoplifted it. Most of the time you will be fine I wouldn't go back to the store. You are also very lucky they didn't chase you.
