My gf and I were at a (dept. store) and during the self checkout I was placing items i did not pay for in my cart with items I did pay for, on the way out security stopped us and the took us to their security site we had 210 dollars worth of items I did not pay for. I'm not in school but my gf is attending school for an OTA program and were mostly worried that she'll be kicked out of school or worse not be able to get in any medical field. We're both scared and I don't what's gonna happen...so can someone tell me what is gonna be our punishment for this?
You must first be arrested, tried, and then convicted in order to be punished.
You are innocent until proven guilty.
Now, take a deep breath.
If all you did was talk to security, nothing more will come of this, except they'll send you a letter (PERHAPS) asking you to send them money.
I'm sure the helpful loss prevention detectives explained all of that.
Not much more we can add, except wait for the letters to arrive in the mail.
Please, don't ever do this crazy and illegal stuff again.
If the police were called, your were cited or hauled away in a cruiser, do as instructed upon your release, APPEAR when and where instructed, plead NOT guilty when your turn is called, ask for a public defender, and stop speaking of this, UNTIL you meet the lawyer.
Then, and only then, speak to the lawyer, no others until this is over.
If you do as instructed and you don't have a 50 page rap sheet, you'll pay a fine and fees, do community service, and get probation.
For now, just clam up and wait. For God's sake, don't break MORE lies now or later.
The more crimes you do, the harder it becomes to get a break.
