Pay for parking with ParkNYC app, get a summons for not displaying receipt!

Parking in New York City using their parking app? Be prepared for trouble. I've now received multiple parking tickets using the ParkNYC App for Failure to Display Parking Meter Receipt. If you're using NYC's app, of course there is no receipt to put on the windshield. The only way to address this is to fight the ticket and dispute it. You need to go through the hassle every time, wasting tremendous amounts of your time in the hope they dismiss what they should KNOW should not be issued in the first place. Personally I have to wonder whether this is a scam because years later this seems not to be fixed. I read online people with the same problem and I'm sure the Parking Violations Bureau is happy to collect money from people who either forget, don't dispute in time, or just pay it off because they can't invest all this time.

Is there a way to put together a class action lawsuit and recover damages for lost time? This doesn't seem accidental. And if you file a lawsuit, aren't City records subject to discovery in evidence requests?

I'm not sure what you mean by "put together a class action lawsuit." Also, "lost time" isn't compensible.

You'd have to find a lawyer willing to undertake the substantial effort of a class action.

Records that are relevant or likely to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence would be discoverable.

Of course it's a scam. It's a cash cow for NYC.

If you don't want the fines, stop using the app, pay the meter and display the receipt.

Yeah, right. Good luck with that. LOL.

I can certainly appreciate the sentiment. I was asked the same question by another friend who is furious. He wants a roto-rooter discovery to uncover why meter maids are giving out parking tickets without first checking to see if a license plate had paid parking credit in the ParkNYC system. He told me that this is the fourth summons he's received for the same thing and had to fight each one of them. Looking online, it appears this complaint has been ongoing for years.
