Hello
I am 19 and have been thrown out of my house by my parents. I am currently staying with various friends. I have some clothes with me but need some more. I am a student at Uni and have got no money what so ever. I am trying to find a job and have been for months but due to the economic condition it is really difficult.
I have a car which is in my mums name which i need some advice on how to change it to my name.
I also have several Saving bonds in my name which as i have no money i need to go and cash in. My parents are refusing to give me them and i believe i have the right to ask a police officer to come with me and that they have to give them to me as they are in my name? Am i right?

They are refusing for me to get any of my belongings and i have given them notice and asked them for my things several times. Please help me with this! i am at my wits end!

Thanks

I generally do not give advice for someone in the UK because I'm unfamiliar with the laws. I would call your parents and explain that these things are yours and you are going to take whatever legal steps you must take to get them starting with calling the police. I would imagine that they don't want the police involved and will give in.

If not, your first step is to call the police and ask them to meet you at the residence. They cannot and will not help you force your way into the residence, but they will explain the potential penalties for keeping your things and you will likely get your things.

The car is going to be a much more difficult animal. You say it is yours, but the title says it is your Mums. Unless she will sign it over to you, you have little chance of forcing her to do so. Good luck dear.

The police won't help you with this sort of thing.
The easiest solution is to work things out with your parents. It seems the point they were trying to make when they tossed you out might be sinking in.
If that doesn't work, you need to make a civil claim, let a judge hear it, and with his order your parents will have to hand over your things.

That said- I don't know the law on evictions in UK. Depending on the circumstances of how you were put out of the house, your parents might face civil penalties for booting you to the street. I am willing to bet that you left voluntarily though, even though you may not realize you did.
