Property Invasion, Damages, Trespass NY Penal Law 140.05 Trespassing

Am charged with NY Penal Law 140.05 Trespassing, being in a public park after stated closing hour (10pm - cited at 10:20pm).

Since part of the law is "knowingly" trespassing - wondering if the "Gee, I didn't know" defense can work here.

Also, what's the fine for something like this? Do I need a lawyer?

Assume this is a violation and will not show up on a criminal record...

I see this was posted in 2006. If you are still around, I'd love to know the outcome of your case. I'm also being charge with Trespass, but completely different circumstances surround it.
