non-renewal of lease in MA.Section 8

I recently bought a 3 family in Mass. I have a tenant whose lease is up October 31st. I gave them proper notice but the housing authority has said I need to provide a reason for non-renewal. Is this true? There is no auto-renewal language in the lease.

How did the housing authority get involved? If this is a Section 8 Housing Assistance lease as I just noticed in your subject then it is governed by special Section 8 laws.
