For about 6 months now I have been getting a call from this company saying I owe them money for a payday loan that I did back in October, problem is I never did a payday loan. I even have gone back and looked at my account to make sure that nothing has ever been put into my account. But this company keeps calling saying they are going press criminal charges of fraud and stuff against me. I have actually talked to them on 3 different occasions and ever time I have said go ahead because I never took out a loan but then nothing happens and I get another call. I try to ignore the calls but it's constant and every time it's from a different number. This last call they made to me they left a message on my voice mail. They are always very rude and very persistent that they are going to press charges. I know that this is a scam call but I don't know how to stop them from harassing me. Even though I know it's a scam it still bothers me that someone is making false allegations and I wonder if they will actually try something. I have no worries on proving I am right but who wants to go through that hassle. Any ideas of what I can do?

I have a quick question.

Did you ever fill out an online application to see if you qualified for any payday loans, even if you didn't get the loan or didn't accept the terms?

The fastest solution is to change your number, but that can be a hassle.
Otherwise, use caller ID and do not answer calls you don't recognize or that are blocked.
If you do happen to answer their call just hang up. The more contact they have with you the more likely they will continue to call.

I don't remember doing any in my name but I did some in my husbands name so I am thinking I probably did some in my name, but I never went past having to prove who I was. I never received anything. One of the times I had them on the phone I asked them for exact information on the date and went into my bank records to see if there were any automatic deposits and there wasn't. I even had the bank do a research to see if I have ever done a payday loan and they said there were no deposits to indicate that I did. That is why I said even if they do take it to court like they are threatening they can't do anything because I can prove I didn't take a loan.

You guessed it, this is a scam.
Most of these criminals operate out of Pakistan or India.
As Moose advised, change your number.
Don't expect miracles, no one cares.
No one being the authorities, so you stand alone.
Change the number, give it to no one but trusted family and friends.
No one else needs your number, tell them you don't a telephone.
I did that years ago, and don't get rank calls anymore.
I don't even give my real number to the pizza delivery company.
