My jurisdiction is: Missouri
My mother is in her mid-sixties. Her mental capacity and her physical wellness have been in decline for several years. I took her to an emergency room and she had to be restrained by security. She was transferred to the Mental Health Center that adjoins this particular hospital. A document was signed and approved by a judge that same day and they informed us that she would be under a 96-hour hold. Upon visiting the next day, my father and I were told that she does not want contact with either of us and they will not release any information to us. She is allowed one 15-minute phone call per shift and she is now calling my in-laws. The conversations consist of hatred, lies and innuendo. What are my father and I to do? Do we have any rights as far as being informed of her condition, treatments, medication, etc.? Can I stop her from contacting my in-laws. Many times we tried in vain to get her to sign a POA/ and or guardianship--no such luck.
