I live in NJ, USA and I'm 17 (will be turning 18 in approx. one month). My girlfriend is 16, and we have had sexual intercourse on more than one occasion. I have heard the age of consent in NJ is 16 years old, and I have also heard that the age of consent is 16 with parental permission (that will never happen). I'd like to know from a legal professional what the real law in NJ is, and whether it is possible that I could already be sued for having sex with her even though I'm not yet 18 years old. If my girlfriend and I stop having sex before I turn 18, is there anything her parents could do legally to me or her? Also, her sister is in a relationship with a police officer in our town. If her parents found out about how far our relationship has gone, there's a good chance this officer would also find out. Is it possible for the police to press charges, even if her parents don't?
