I've lived in condo in a beautiful mid-rise for over a year. Most of th residents are older (50-60's). I have a daughter (10). Two months ago my friend moved into a condo downstairs with her 7 yr old daughter. Because the children are friends they are outside playing all the time. Today I was made aware that the lady upstairs from me wrote a letter to the condo association and the board of directors complaining about the children playing outside and about a bunch of other things that she is blaming on "renters" only.
Her last lines were: This is what we have seen and heard. I'm sure this is not a complete summary of happenings. I would like to see the following actions take place: first, if we continue to allow renters, we should establish the following: a heavy security deposit, provide a copy of our bylaws (they pay for them) and a list of penalties (monetary) if not followed. Second: no children, dogs or cats. The best solution is: change our bylaws not to allow units to be rented at all.
Her list was filled with a bunch of crap to say the least, and a bunch of lies - all of them accusatory toward me. and she obviously does not like children.
What can I do about this? I have caused absolutely no problems and have been a model tenant.
Do I, as a renter, have the right to live in an environment free of harassment? I feel the letter she wrote was blatant harassment against me to discredit my reputation, reliability and responsibility as a tenant.
