my friend found a money order for $900 ont the ground in a few months ago and it was not made out to anyone. he put his name on it, signed it, and got the money for himself. now he has to go to court becuase he was caught, and we were just wondering what the punishment would be.
i read somewhere that in the state of new york, if the amount of money is over $500 that the crime is tried as a felony. is that true? also, what are the possible punishments in new york if this is tried as a misdemeanor, and what are the punishments if its tried as a felony? how much jail time is he looking at if any?
also, he does have past offenses (i dont believe that they are fraud related). i am not sure for what, but i do know that he has been sent to a juvenile detention center before. i dont know how many times he has been in jail before, but i know that he has been locked up several times when he was a minor, but he is now 20.
