In short: My 8 year old son has a form of autism known as Asperger's Syndrome. We are homeowners here in Watkinsville, Ga, and there are two elementary schools here; CFES and OCES. He has attended one of them,CFES, for his first 3 years of school, k-2. Now he is enrolled and attending the other school, OCES, here in Watkinsville, Ga. The school board is now demanding that we withdraw him and put him back in the other school. We have many concerning reasons why we do not want to do that and we want to know why our son is not being protected by senate bill 10? We have mentioned this to the school board reps and we were told that that bill does not apply in our county. Can you offer any help or advice? I have emailed Governor Perdue but have not gotten a response. My son is currently in a class that has only 13 other students I am confident that when he transfers back to his orig school his class size will increase. This is not fair or just. This is negligent and ignorant on the part of the school board.

You should contact the Georgia dept of education. The program is administered through them. Here's a link with contact information:

According to the website FAQs, the school district has the right to deny an application. However, if they approved your son's and are now trying to renege on their acceptance, perhaps you will have some recourse.

Good luck
