My friend has been getting into some hardcore drugs lately and I am concerned. What are the exact laws and penalties surrounding salvia divinorum and Amanita muscaria.

My understanding is that they are legal to possess -- at the moment. I'm not sure that you could call these substances "hardcore" but any substance that is used consistently can be fatal. Some people may overdose on those tasty flinstones vitamins (although these are a bit different.)

You may want to speak to him about them or convince him/her that it might not be such a good idea to take them in mass quantities -- or better, to speak to someone with experience.
