Were you charged with stealing, theft, larceny, shoplifting, taking property that didn't belong to you, or shoplifting?
Petty crimes, including shoplifting can, indeed, get you denied or deported.
You appear to have committed a felony, because the value is $3,500, according to your post.
Even a suspended or deferred sentence (that's what you obtained) can jeopardize your ability to stay here, or return here.
I suggest you speak with a GOOD immigration attorney and get personalized legal advice and guidance.
The Murthy Law Firm link (below) provides a great explanation as to how the courts are trending about theft, even petty thefts.

You can also speak with an immigration attorney.
You might also wish to speak with your probation officer or case manager about your criminal charges.
You haven't completed the 75 hours.
You must do EVERYTHING, not just what you THINK is okay.
That incorrect thinking and doing got you in trouble once.
You keep doing that, it will affect your legal stay in the US.
