I live in illinois and a minor stole about $5,000 worth of property from my home. He was arrested and confessed to the crime and is awaiting trial. Can I sue his parents for my loss or can I ask that the damages be paid to me as part of the criminal case. Should I file with my homeowners insurance and how will that effect the case?
