I was recently caught shoplifting $80 worth of stuff from a department store. i am sooo scared. i cant explain the amount of guilt and shame i feel. is it possible to get an out of court settlment? should i get a lawyer? i heard the judge might not give you a PD if you probably wont get jail time.

The first thing you should do is start calling lawyers. Many offer free consultations, get as many as you can. Ask about ACD or Diversion as possible plea option. If you cannot afford to hire any of these Attorneys then ask for PD on your first court date and either plead not guilty or stand mute. I have not heard of being denied PD if jail is not option but either way get the consultations so you have some knowledge of your options
