Hi, I got an MIP in Michigan about a week ago, which was done in a very strange way but is not the point of my post. I was wondering about the options for first time offenders, as it says in the outline of Michigan's revised Minor in Possession laws that a first time offender has the right to get the offense taken off of their record upon successful completion of their probation. I visited a lawyer before I had read about this, and he said for 400 dollars he could get paperwork from the prosecuting attorney which would get rid of this misdemeanor on my record, but would still require me to do probation, pay fines. Now should I bother having the lawyer there with me, or would I get the same options without him, and not have to pay for his "services"?
