medical bill not submitted to insurance

I have received a medical bill from a test lab which is over a year old. The lab never submitted the bill to my insurance company and now the insurance company will not pay because of "late submission".
Am I responsible for this bill?

Call the lab and tell them that you should not be responsible for the entire amount since it was their fault they didn't submit the claim on time and, as a result, your insurance company will no longer pay for the amount you were going to be covered had they done so.
