I own a wedding planning business (in California) and in recognition of the court ruling allowing for same-sex marriages in California I want to offer 50% off all services to any same-sex couples getting married in 2008. But, I am concerned as to whether or not it is legal to offer discounts to one group of people over another? My business is a sole proprietorship (not a corporation).

PS. I am not interested in hearing opinions about gay marriage, etc, I am just interested in the legal aspect of my question, so please only respond if you have a relevant reply. Thanks in advance.

I am no lawyer but I believe I have seen Toyota adds on television where current Toyota owners are offered an additional rebate on new Toyota vehicles. That clearly is offering a discount to one group of people over other groups.

Whether one may compare Toyota owners, as a group, to same-sex couples is a matter for another thread.
