Some lawyers are friends with the cops, others are not. It does NO ONE any good to be angry and confrontational all the time.
Most local criminal defense lawyers see the local cops all the time. Of course they are going to be cordial - why not? And many attorneys KNOW their client is guilty. In that case, they know it is a waste of their time and their client's (or the state's) money to pursue a defense that is doomed to failure because of the situation. An attorney worth his salt is not going to rack up billable hours to his client just so that he can appear busy. He will likely tell his client the truth and offer up as good a deal as he can manage.
