Someone in my family wants to give me some of her money ($30,000) to depositie in an account in my name. She wants to do this because she is applying for public aid and if the money is in my name she will be eligable. I am afraid for two reasons, first I might be committing a crime and second, it would increase my taxable income. My question is 1) Is doing this illegal? and 2) Would this cause problems with my taxable income?
