I am a private horse trainer. A customer wrote me a check for $5800.00. It took the bank 23 days to let me know the customer had insufficient funds and the check was not good. What legal actions can I take against this customer and how do I go about this?

Hi aweischedel. The bank would have no control over how long it would take the check to clear (or not clear) your account as it has probably tried to come into your account twice and then been returned "Insufficient Funds" . The issuers bank can only verify if the money is in the account and will not be able to give you any other information. Your best bet would be to contact the person that wrote you the check and if the result isnt to your liking...go ahead and contact the sheriff's office.

I am not a lawyer, but I do work for a bank in NC and that is the advice we give to our customers if this has happened to them. Good Luck with your efforts.
