Hi and thanks in advance for any assistance. I am wanting to help a freind of mine here in California. His father was a good freind and passed away recently. In the will he left about a dozen firearms to his adult son. The son is also the executor of the estate. The son has a felony conviction some 20 years ago and we believe is forbidden from firearms. We don't know if the law prevents him from owning them or only possessing them. They are temporarily stored at another friends house which may or may not be legal in itself. His intention is to have a firearms dealer sell them for him. Can someone clarify the legalities of all of this for us please?
Also, we are wondering if after 20 years if there is a way to get his right to firearms restorred. Can a judge be petitioned to do that? Can we work to get his conviction expunged? The conviction was for embezzelment, no violent crimes in this case.
Thanks!
