Overstay, Illegal Status Imigration status

Hello,I would like to ask an imigration lawyer question. Do people with no legal status in United states have any rights here whatsoever? For instance, if their visa are expired and they remain in the country with illigal status can they go to jail for that? Is illigal status by itself a crime? Can police ask you for your imigration status if you for instance get pulled over on the road for speeding? What if you own property here, can they confiscate it if they find out you have no legal status in US?

Yes, being in the US does come with rights. But if you're here illegally, yes, the police can ask you for your papers and you may not go to jail for that offense - you might likely be deported out of the country.
